【1】Due attention should be given to the study of Chinese
In recent years, the ignorance of Chinese has been prevailing among students. In contrast, more and more students attach great importance to foreign language study.
A number of factors can account for such phenomenon, but the following might be the critical ones. First and foremost, the globalization greatly stimulated the students’ craze for learning English, which in turn affect, to some degree, students’ passion for the study of their native language. Moreover, fewer and fewer universities motivate Chinese language study on campus, which has caused it to be marginalized. Undoubtedly, neglecting the study of Chinese is bound to generate severe consequences if we keep turning a blind eye to it. Firstly, students’ weakness in Chinese would lead to their ignorance of Chinese culture and ultimately lose their culture identify. Secondly, their problem with Chinese would also hinder the study of other subjects.
In my view, the problem mentioned above has become increasingly severe, so great concern is deserved and effective measures are called for. To begin with, it is essential that the school attach more importance to the teaching of Chinese. Secondly, Students should enhance their awareness of the importance of mastering their mother tongue. Only with these measures taken, I think, can the chances of changing this phenomenon be prosperous.
【2】Harmful plagiarism in academic field in China
Nowadays most of us might come across people who copy other’s ideas or sentences for their own benefits. This phenomenon is most harmful to the academic circle even the whole society.
In my opinion, their harmfulness can be summarized in the following three respects. First of all, plagiarism devalues the original work of other and cruelly violates the rights of the original copyright holders. Secondly, people’s writing and thinking skill will not be developed if there is plagiarism here and there. Finally, plagiarism is a violation and can result in the failure of a class, removal from a program, suspension or dismissal from the college.
In my mind, the government, organizations and mass media should join hands to put an end to this problem. On the one hand, the government should punish the plagiarizers severely lest they harm the author again. On the other hand, mass media should report the bad effect of plagiarism to educate common citizens.
To me, if I need use phrase or sentence of another in my own paper, I will put quotation marks around them. At least I will use words or have a sentence structure different from the original work, while maintaining the gist of the original author’s idea instead of just rearranging or replacing a few words.
